RAYMOND PATRIARCA, SR. served as boss of the New England Patriarca crime family from 1956 to 1984. Based in Providence, Rhode Island, Patriarca ran the New England mob with an iron fist, consolidating power and using a combination of violence and a keen business acumen to turn the New England rackets into a well-oiled machine.

Shown here for his 1970 arrest for murder and conspiracy to commit murder at age 62, Patriarca was convicted on the conspiracy count and sentenced to 10 years in prison, but continued running his crime family from behind bars. He died of a heart attack in 1984 at age 76.
