VINCENT GIGANTE, aka “THE CHIN”

VINCENT GIGANTE served as boss of New York’s Genovese crime family from 1986 to 2005. A former professional boxer, Gigante started as a low-level enforcer for the Luciano crime family and quickly rose through the ranks, seizing power in the 60s and 70s.

This mugshot is from a 1960 arrest for heroin trafficking at age 32, for which Gigante was paroled after five years served. “The Chin” famously faked insanity in an attempt to avoid facing trial for racketeering charges, earning the nickname “The Oddfather” from the press. Eventually found fit to stand trial and convicted in 1997, he would continue to run the Genovese family from behind bars until his death in 2005.
